Unexpected Delights

Much of South Americas railways were built by the British, in La Paz you can find typical style English semis from that period built to house the workers.

Other gems are pieces of machinery made in the UK. The steam-powered crane above was built in Rodley near Leeds by Thomas Smith and Sons and is now at the port of Puno, 4,000m above sea level on Lake Titicaca in Peru.

Taxi Drivers

Always chat to your taxi driver, they can give valuable local knowledge. They may be wider travelled than you expect too. On two separate occasions in Buenos Aires, my drivers had both visited the UK on a tour to play rugby with their local teams.
